So Che Bundles data volume has been reduced

So Che bundles have been the go-to offer for Airtel subscribers in Zambia. When Airtel released the offer back in 2016, people were happy with it because of the low prices on the packages. You may have liked So Che more when Airtel increased the number of minutes in the packages by 50%, but you won’t like what has happened. Airtel has reduced the data volume by 50% on all So Che monthly packages.

My So Che headache

I didn’t get the memo that Airtel had reduced bundles until four days ago when I bought my monthly on-net (Airtel – Airtel) and all-net (Airtel – All networks) minutes in Zambia. The minutes were there as expected, but I was shocked to open my messages app and notice that I was missing half my data allocation. I dialed *140# and selected option 6 to view my So Che balance, and it was still the same.

As a blogger, I live the majority of my life online, and I treasure data bundles more than the calling minutes. I use the minutes to call my old school clients that don’t use WhatsApp. Anyway, I didn’t give up quickly based on just checking my So Che balance, I redialed *140# to view the data volumes on the K110 on-net and K100 all-net packages. I realised that Airtel had reduced the data volume allocation on all So Che packages.

Old vs. Current So Che prices and volumes

If you want to buy a So Che pack, then take note of the change in data volumes in the table below. I took the liberty of colour coding green for the old data volumes and red for the new data volumes.

It still beats me why Airtel reduced the data allocations on So Che. I don’t know if this is because they are trying to push the Zambian subscriber to purchase packages from their latter promotion Ikali. Ikali is different as packages are generated based on usage and spending habits of the customer. Ikali is both good and bad, depending on who’s buying a package.

In conclusion

Chaopena na So Che has been an outstanding offer on Airtel and is one of the best in Zambia from my perspective. Although I am beginning to worry for the future of the offer, Cheza 4eva is on my radar. As a loyal Airtel subscriber, I hope there’s a change to the offer or better promotion to combine minutes and data in the works. I guess you are using a So Che pack or Ikali bundles to view this article if you are on Airtel.
