This line of Android smartphones is more privileged than others

While most smartphone users are waiting for an update to Android 9 aka Android Pie which was released last year(2018), Google Pixel users can run a preview build of Android 10 aka Android Q which was released on 13th March this year (2019) with the final Official release set for August 2019.

Why this release

Users can expect a lot of features centred on privacy, development, gesture-based control and support for foldable smartphones in Android Q.

The current version of Android Q is still in beta

Google has lined up 6 builds of the latest version of Android and the current release of the 6 is the first. This beta release is only officially available to Google Pixel users and all models are supported.

List of smartphones currently supporting Android Q beta:

Google Pixel

Google Pixel XL

Google Pixel 2

Google Pixel 2 XL

Google Pixel 3

Google Pixel 3 XL

Installing the current version of Android Q on your main phone is not recommended as the OS is still in beta as covered by Android Authority in this report. It would be wise to wait for the official release slated for August 2019.

The privilege of Google Pixel

Google is the maker of the Android operating system which is the most widely used operating system in mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets, smart watches, wearable etc. It is only common sense that Google Pixel smartphones would be the first to receive updates because both OS and smartphone are built by the same entity. The other reason why Google Pixel smartphones are first to receive updates is because they run the stock version of Android. Other phone manufacturers have to wait for the official release in order to customise it for their device UI e.g (HTC Sense, Samsung One, Huawei EMUI).

Conclusion

The Pixel range of smartphones is solid with great hardware and a great user experience due to stock Android. It can be said that the Google Pixel is privileged when it comes to updates. Are you going to buy yourself a Pixel next time you decide to buy a smartphone?
